Fui criada en Zimbabwe hasta la edad de 18 años. Viví en Londres por 12 años y emigré a América en 1984. Continúo teniendo familia en Zimbabwe y la visito cada año.
Mi infancia me inculcó un profundo amor por el mundo natural y me encanta viajar, especialmente a lugares salvajes.
Ese amor por la naturaleza me ha llevado a ser una ávida jardinera y nunca soy más feliz que cuando estoy cavando en mi jardín o sentada mirando el paisaje que he creado. Soy una ecologista comprometida y así jardín sin pesticidas o fertilizantes. Me encanta leer ficción y siempre tengo un libro para leer. Sin estar involucrada en un libro me siento perdida!
Me considero una privilegiada para ser una terapeuta de familia, por habérseme dado la intimidad de entrar en vidas de la gente en el esfuerzo mutuo de causar cambio. Aprecio la variedad de mi vida profesional, enseñando, investigando y estando en la práctica clínica como siempre estoy estimulada y constantemente aprendiendo, de mis clientes, mis colegas y mis estudiantes.
He centrado mi carrera en el bienestar de los niños y las familias y estoy encantada de que mis propios cinco hijos ahora están teniendo sus propios hijos que voy a tener el placer de ver crecer!
A little about me:
I was raised in Zimbabwe until the age of 18. I lived in London for 12 years and immigrated to America in 1984. I continue to have family in Zimbabwe and visit every year.
My childhood instilled in me a profound love of the natural world and I love to travel, especially to wild places.
That love of nature had led me to be an avid gardener and I am never happier than when I am digging in my garden or sitting gazing at the landscape I have created. I am a committed environmentalist and so garden without pesticides or fertilizer. I love to read fiction and always have a book to read. Without being engaged in a book I feel lost!
I consider myself privileged to be a family therapist, to be afforded the intimacy of entering into peoples lives in the mutual effort of bringing about change. I treasure the variety of my professional life, teaching, researching and being in clinical practice as I am always stimulated and constantly learning, from my clients, my colleagues and my students.
I have focused my career on the wellbeing of children and families and I am delighted that my own five children are now having their own children who I will have the pleasure of seeing grow!

Soy miembro de la facultad de enseñanza superior del Instituto Ackerman para la Familia. Soy Co-Directora del Centro para Niños y Trauma Relacional, un programa de investigación clínica que ha abordado temas de violencia familiar y trauma relacional desde 1992. He sido autora de varios artículos sobre el abuso sexual intrafamiliar y la metodología clínica, que el centro desarrolló, para abordar los dilemas e impasses que genera este conjunto de problemas de presentación.
Dirijo los programas de formación Ackerman International y Community durante doce años, desarrollando programas en Hong Kong, Argentina, Chile y Japón. Fiona True LCSW is a member of the senior teaching faculty of the Ackerman Institute for the Family. She is Co-Director of the Center for Children and Relational Trauma, a clinical research program that has addressed issues of family violence and relational trauma since 1992. She has authored several papers on the subject of intra-familial sexual abuse and the clinical methodology, which the center developed, to address the dilemmas and impasses that this set of presenting problems generates.
She directed the Ackerman’s International and Community training programs for twelve years, developing programs in Hong Kong, Argentina, Chile and Japan. She regularly consults and trains in community mental health agencies and providers of residential care. She has presented the work of the Center both internationally and within the United States. She maintains private practices in both New York City and Connecticut.
